For another year, the North Region thought to publish again the
Directory of exhibitions and activities linked to the time of Holy
Week. A time in which apart from its religious significance, it is
also important from a cultural point of view. This is the third
edition. It seems that it was well received by you and that it was
also found to be useful apart from the fact, that a printed
booklet will still come forward as a primary source when the
years pass. For this reason, we will be contributing to the written
history.
The Holy Week in our country knows its beginning well back in
the years; right from the time of the Knights of the Order of St.
John. Historically, processions with the Cross go back to the 17th
century but forms of procession had already begun to form
towards the end of the 16th century. To this day, they are still
done with love and passion even if perhaps progress has
changed the format or added to the existing one from so long
ago.
It is our duty to support these cultural traditions because they
give us a unique identity. In the Northern Region we have
localities with the Holy Week procession but where there is not,
you will find shows and other activities such as passion plays
and the finest exhibitions.
Enjoy these moments and spread
them so that they grow stronger. I
take the opportunity to wish you a
happy Easter on my behalf, on
behalf of the Executive Secretary
and the staff and also the
members of the Regional Council.
